🌊 What Is Sea Sickness?

Sea sickness is that uneasy feeling many travelers get when their body struggles to adjust to a boat’s motion. It occurs when your inner ear (balance center) senses movement, but your eyes see a still environment — confusing your brain.
This conflict triggers nausea, dizziness, vomiting, and discomfort.

Strong smells like diesel fumes or fish can worsen the feeling. Usually, symptoms appear in the first 12–24 hours at sea and fade as your body gets used to the waves.

💡 Quick Tips to Prevent Sea Sickness

  • Stay Active: Keeping busy distracts your mind and reduces symptoms.

  • Go on Deck: Fresh air and watching the horizon help your body adjust.

  • Avoid Confined Spaces: Below-deck motion feels stronger and worsens nausea.

  • Eat Light: Avoid overeating, alcohol, and smoking before sailing.

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout your trip.

💊 Medical Remedies

Over-the-counter medicines like Dramamine (dimenhydrinate) can help prevent sea sickness.
Take a dose about an hour before boarding. These medicines can cause drowsiness, so it’s best to rest and avoid alcohol. Always drink enough water to stay hydrated.

🌿 Ayurvedic & Natural Remedies

If you prefer natural healing, Ayurveda has wonderful solutions:

  • Ginger: The best-known remedy for motion sickness. Take 2–3 grams of ginger powder before sailing.

  • Cardamom Seeds: Fried seeds mixed with honey (thrice daily) are good for kids.

  • Sandalwood Paste + Amla Juice: Soothes nausea.

  • Herbal Mix: Combine amla, cumin, clove, black pepper, and sugar with honey to ease recurrent sickness.

  • Tulsi Seeds with Milk: Helps control vomiting naturally.

  • Choornadaka: An Ayurvedic lime-water preparation for children’s nausea (under medical advice).

  • Classical Remedies: Elaadi Vati, Maadiphala Rasayana, Sanjeewani Vati, Ark Pudina are often prescribed for adults — consult your doctor first.

⚠️ Important Note

Always consult a doctor or Ayurvedic practitioner before using any medicine or herbal preparation. Each person’s body reacts differently to sea travel and remedies.

🌅 Final Thoughts

Sea sickness might start your trip on a rough note, but it rarely lasts long.
With light meals, fresh air, hydration, and perhaps a pinch of ginger, you’ll soon find your sea legs.
Once you adjust, you’ll be free to enjoy the beauty of the Andaman Islands, the sound of the waves, and the thrill of your ocean adventure! 🌊✨
